try this

Note: Vista drivers works with Windows 7! both 32-bit and 64-bit drivers work, even network printing works!, Am running windows 7 64-bit on one system and am using vista 32-bit on other that has the printer connected with usb
Vista Drivers that works on Windows 7 (little buggy but they do work better than PCL  if you have problems)
Vista 32-bit Vista 64-bit

Thanks a billion. It worked for me, but I am really pissed on HP people. They didn’t make a fix for HP1010 in win7. It is like they are making people buy their other products by force…

I have another workaround since this was not working for me
    I have windows 7 64 bit version.

I have problem when connecting the printer that it not in printers, but in unrecognized devices, but it recognizes it’s name – HP LaserJet 1010.
Since I have tried all other methods I found on forums, and none helped, finally I found a solution.

    1. Manually installed Vista 64 driver for HP 1010 – use dot4 port for installation.
It’s not working with this driver (for me – I read that some people solved problem with this) but now it is recognized as a printer and not a unknown device anymore.

    Driver can be found at:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=306507&taskId=135&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=306505

    2. Install HP universal printing PCL5 driver from HP site.
When asked use the manual, not dynamic type of installation.
Use the same port – dot 4.

    driver can be found at
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/ProductList.jsp?locale=en_US&taskId=135&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=503548

    3. Go to Devices and printers, right click on universal printer, go to printer properties, select hp 1010, go to advanced tab and change the driver to HP universal printing PCL5.

    done

    This worked for me
